German Lieder – Italian Canzonetten – French Arietten
by Ch. W. Gluck, C. Ph. E. Bach, V. Righini, A. Sacchini
Musical Direction: Claudia Eder · Cembalo Accompaniment: Olav Kröger
"L'Italie pour la musique, la France pour la literature" - Prince Henry would not have signed this motto of his brother Frederick, because in his Royal Opera French tones prevailed. For his conductor Johann Peter Salomon, who later brought Haydn to London, he translated "La Clemenza di Tito" into French and wrote a ' comédie lyrique '. Later in Paris, Henry addicted entirely the pleasures of opera - much to the envy of his brother in the remote Potsdam. In autumn of 1784 and again in winter 1788 enjoyed the Prussian enjoyed works of Gluck and Sacchini: the Iphigenia and "Oedipe à Colonne ". In our program, excerpts from these are combined with Italian opera arias - from Mozart's "Titus" and ariettas from the Berlin Hofkapellmeister Righini, which he dedicated to Henry's niece, Friederike.

The fairy-tale opera "Fewej" was created with a libretto by Catherine the Great, who dedicated it to their grandchildren. The composer Vasily Pashkevich (1742-1792) was regarded as the founder of Russian opera. "Fewej" is based on old Russian legends about the prince of the same name. He is confronted with the different responses at the Imperial Court, and ultimately turn out differently than planned ... .
